Living a Long Life: Which Battery Lasts the Longest?

The ideal battery is convenient, lasts forever, and is cheap. Wouldn't that be nice?

Everyone at some point in their lives has had to deal with dead batteries. There is nothing worse than trying to take the batteries out of the DVD player remote control for your Gameboy, only to realize you already did that a month ago.

This is why it is important to know which battery lasts the longest. It can come in handy in emergency situations, too. Read on to see our review of the most commonly purchased batteries in the market.

The Lifespan of a Battery

How long is a battery really supposed to last? This is a very common question but it doesn't have a simple answer.

Of course, there are numerous factors in play. Not all batteries are created equally and then you have to consider what they are being used for?

Are you using batteries for the remote control or for a portable Bluetooth speaker? Clearly, different uses will drain the battery faster or slower.

Which Battery Lasts the Longest?

There are several types of batteries on the market. Some are superior to others so we've broken them down to see their positives and negatives.

Alkaline Batteries

This is the most common type of standard battery. They have a shelf life of at least five years without risk of leakage. This makes them very popular for most home applications.

The downside is that they can't be recharged so once they're dead, they're dead.

Carbon-Zinc

If alkaline is the Ford Mustang of non-rechargeable batteries, carbon-zinc is the Ford Pinto.

Although they look similar, they are inferior to alkaline batteries. They are not the battery with the best life and they may leak.

However, they tend to be considerably cheaper so they might be just what you need in a pinch.

Rechargeable Batteries

Also called secondary batteries, these can be recharged once they run out of power. The majority use lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium, Nickel-Metal Hydride, or lead-acid.

Lithium-ion batteries are very light-weight and can be recharged over and over. This makes them ideal for cell-phones and other smart devices.

So, Which Battery is the Best?

Are you looking for a good deal or do you want the battery with the best lifespan? These are all questions you need to ask yourself before spending money on a bunch of batteries?

Gas station batteries are too expensive and aren't even good quality. Be sure to buy all your batteries from a reliable source. You might even find some great deals.

Don't Get Caught Without Power

You should always have a well-stocked emergency kit in case of disaster. Apart from other necessary items, you absolutely need to include several kinds of batteries.

Know what kind of batteries you need and which battery lasts the longest. There is nothing worse than getting stuck in the dark, so be sure to stay fully stocked. You'll be glad you did in case the power goes out.
