How to Store Batteries To Get The Longest Life

Our batteries probably deserve more respect than we give them. Many of us only think about them when they die and need to be replaced. We usually don't think about them when we're using the remote control or turning on a flashlight.

When it's time to replace your batteries, you want to make sure that the new batteries are going to work and are going to last? The best way to ensure this is by properly storing them.

Continue reading and we'll show you the right way for how to store batteries so that you can get the most out of your devices.

Remove Them from Your Devices

Are you going away for a while? Or putting things in storage? If so, it would be best for you to actually remove your batteries and store them separately.

By keeping your batteries inside of an electronic device, the power can slowly be drained from it. Also, if the battery corrodes or leaks, you don't want it to mess up your equipment so that it then becomes unusable.

Keep a Cool Temperature

No matter what type of battery you're using, extreme heat can greatly deplete the battery's stored power. It's best to keep your batteries in a cool, dry area. If keeping them in storage, try to get a storage unit that's climate-controlled.

With that said, don't store your batteries in the freezer or refrigerator. Some people are under the impression that this can prolong the life of a battery but that isn't the case.

Exposure to extreme cold can weaken the battery. Plus, the condensation from the refrigerator can also cause damage.

Keep Them in Their Original Packaging

There's a reason why they're stored in that package. Your batteries should be tightly contained and should be loosely rolling around, especially when they can potentially come into contact with other metal objects.

There are also various battery storage boxes that you can use to keep your batteries safe and protected.

You can also bunch up all of your loose batteries and tie them together with a rubber band. After making sure that they are tight and secured, place them into a plastic bag. When bunching loose batteries together, make sure that all of the positive and negative ends are facing the same direction.

Separate New and Old Batteries

There are a few reasons why you should store old and new batteries separately. First, storing them together could result in battery leakage. Also, you might get mixed up about which ones are newer and which ones are older.

Already not sure which batteries in your home are new and old? You can get yourself a battery tester to quickly check which ones are which.

The Importance of Knowing How to Store Batteries

By knowing how to store batteries the proper way, you can prolong the life of your devices and save money from having to constantly purchase new batteries. Storing batteries isn't difficult but it is important.
