The worst thing that can happen on the road (after an accident) is having a car that will not start. When it stops out of nowhere, you may start to panic and wonder what to do.
Can you see any lights in your car? Do you see your battery light on?
In most cases, you will need a battery booster pack to get your car moving. Keep reading to learn how you can use it yourself, it's easy.
If this is your first time jump-starting your car, you want to make sure you're being safe by following the battery charger instructions. Be sure to turn off the engine first and remove your keys from the ignition.
Remove any jewelry you have and ensure you and your car do not have any flammable gases or liquid.
Open the hood of your car and locate the battery. The battery is a large black box that is easily identifiable and has connecting terminals on the top.
Not sure what the terminals are? Look for a "-," "NEG," or "N" and a "+," "POS," or "P" sign. If there is any debris or corrosion, remove it.
The most vital part of starting your car is using the battery charger. You want to connect the positive jump box cable with the positive terminal first.
This is always the red cable. Then you can connect the negative jump box cable with the negative terminal. The negative cable will be black.
Make sure you connect the cables properly. It should have a snug hold. The positive and negative cables should never connect with each other. Once everything is in position, you can leave the cables in for several minutes.
At this point, you are ready to test whether or not the jumper box was able to jump-start your car by starting your engine. Do not feel disheartened if your car does not start the first time. You can try again after waiting a few minutes.
You do not want to do this more than 2-5 times as consecutive use may damage the jump starter. If your battery still will not juice up after several attempts, you will need a new battery.
When you are able to start your car with the battery charger, you can disconnect the jump starter from your car's battery. Be sure to disconnect the charger in the reverse. Start by disconnecting the negative cable from the terminal then the positive one.
Leave your car to sit a minute or two after starting the battery. When you arrive home, be sure to recharge the jump starter.
When you are on the road, your car can cause trouble at any moment. You do not have to be a mechanic to fix basic car issues. If you notice your car doesn't start, you will need a battery booster pack to charge it. There's no need to tow a car that you can start yourself.
